Update to contact info
Hey this is just a quick, self indulgent and possibly unnecessary post just to say that my contact information has changed and that I am no longer reachable via Bluesky.
I was one of the first 225k people on there (humble brag) and watch it grow (albeit from a distance) to over 30 million users and in truth it never really got any better for me. I used it a little bit once the registrations opened publicly and I was reunited with people I used to speak to on âMetal Twitterâ before that went away but it never really lasted for me.
I was sceptical from the beginning with it being a centralised, VC funded platform with ties to crypto (red flags everywhere) nevertheless I tried to give it a go but these facts always kept me at arms length. Plus the user experience of it showing the most recent posts first and having to scroll back to find others meant I never really read more than a few things at a time.
The new laws in the UK which they have agreed to, meaning to have a regularly operating account you need to verify ID using a third party gaming site and possibly providing ID was an absolute no from me. If I wasnât sceptical of them before, there was no way I was giving them this information.
So, goodbye Bluesky. Account is now deleted. If you want me I am available on the Fediverse via my Mastodon profile or via email.
