Albums of the Year 1999 - as chosen by users of the Fediverse

I had a lot of fun with the previous post asking the people of the Fediverse for their favourite albums from 1990 that it confirmed my suspicions that it would be a cool and fun thing to do as a more regularly series of posts. A big thank you for everyone who got involved in the first round and for everyone has, and will continue, to contribute further.

It’s been fun seeing a various array of choices from different genres and getting people to discuss music they love is always a rewarding topic of discussion and one that I really enjoy.

Therefore we march forwards in this time out and we are compiling our favourite albums from the year 1999. An interesting time in metal, nu metal has long been established and its influence, for better or worse, permeated through the scene. I am not sure what this time period meant for other musical styles though. What did it look like for jazz, or dance or electronic music compared to previous years? I have no idea but if you do please enlighten me!

For now though we are here to discuss the submissions already made for your favourite album of 1999. This year actually got more individual albums nominated than 1990 did with fewer albums getting multiple votes. The nominations were spread about more with more individual which I found quite interesting. At this stage I would say that my personal choice would be Razorblade Romance by HIM because it was a huge album for me getting in to music and I still love it to this day.

The outright winner with the most votes this time round was The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails. An incredibly popular band I’ve never personally been able to gel with but I shall try once again on the back of this victory.

Beyond this, there were three albums tied for the second most nominations and they are:

Black Sails in the Sunset by AFI

The Sebadoh by Sebadoh

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields

The rest of the nominations stood out, alone but proud and were as follows:

Colony by In Flames

Host by Paradise Lost

At the Heart of Winter by Immortal

Issues by Korn

Still Life by Opeth

Play by Moby

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips

I See a Darkness by Bonnie Prince Billy

When the Pawn… by Fiona Apple

California by Mr Bungle

ÁgÌtis byrjun by Sigur Ros

Calculating Infinity by Dillinger Escape Plan

Strange in Stereo by In the Woods…

World Coming Down by Type O Negative

Slipknot by Slipknot

Hatebreeder by Children of Bodom

Enema of the State by Blink 182

Arntor by Windir

Channeling the Quintessence of Satan by Abigor

Dreaming Neon Black by Nevermore

Eureka by Jim O’Rourke

666 International by Dødheimsgard

Pale Folklore by Agalloch

Jug Fulla Sun by Spirit Caravan

Have a Nice Day by Roxette
